Biography (without IEEE activities): Chokri BEN AMAR received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the National Engineering School of Sfax (ENIS) in 1989, the M.S. and PhD degrees in Computer Engineering from the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon, France, in 1990 and 1994, respectively. He spent one year at the University of “Haute Savoie” (France) as a teaching assistant and researcher before joining the higher School of Sciences and Techniques of Tunis (ESSTT) as Assistant Professor in 1995. In 1999, he joined the Sfax University (USS), where he is currently a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering of the National Engineering School of Sfax (ENIS).

His research interests include Computer Vision and Image and video analysis. These research activities are centered on Wavelets and Wavelet networks and their applications to data Classification and approximation, Pattern Recognition and image and video coding, indexing and watermarking.

 

Position Statement: I am honored to be candidate for the Vice Chair of the IEEE Tunisia section 2017-2018. My experience, vision and accomplishment will be my guidelines. I believe that my global experience and background along with my professional and technical contributions could qualify me to help IEEE Tunisia Section.

If elected, I will work passionately to establish a “member-centered society” which aims at shifting the focus of all of its activity to serving its members. I will work hard to encourage recruiting and retaining IEEE volunteers within our Section.

I also believe that my extensive IEEE leadership experience (e.g., Chair of Tunisia SPS Chapter, Vice Chair of Tunisia Computer Society, Tunisia Sec/Treasurer of SMC Society, General Chair or Technical chair or organizing chair of many International conferences) has given me a good vision and perspective of IEEE Tunisia Chapters structure and challenges.

If elected, I will help to establish successful projects and contribute greatly to the success of IEEE Tunisia Section.

 

Major IEEE Accomplishments: Chokri BEN AMAR is a senior member of IEEE since 2008. He founded the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Tunisia Chapter on January 2009, and he was the chair of this Chapter from 2009 to 2012.

His was elected for a new mandate as actual chair from 2015-2016. The chapter organized eight IEEE Distinguished Lectures and other technical and professional activities.

The chapter Offered the technical Co-Spensorship for many International Conferences organized in Tunisia, Morocco, …

Many winter and summer Schools were organized or co-organized by the chapter.

Chokri BEN AMAR is also the current advisor of the IEEE SPS Student Chapter in ENIS. He is also the Vice Chair of Tunisia Computer Society and The Sec/Treasurer of Tunisia SMC Society.

I’m qualified for the IEEE Section Vice chair position because :

  • I was and still involved to many IEEE activities since the creation of the IEEE Tunisia section
  • I have a rich experience as a researcher and supervisor
  • I have a large Scientific recognition through my publications in high level journals and conferences
  • I have an excellent experience through my participation to the IEEE Volunteer Leadership Training (VOLT) program
  • I developed several skills in leadership, communication, management, organization of Scientific conferences, etc.
  • I developed good relations and many contacts at the national and international levels
  • I developed many values of discipline, efficiency, passion, ethic, openness, team spirit, etc.
  • I developed a good experience from my nominations as a chair or vice chair or Sec/Treasurer of many IEEE societies
