Cogite coworking space, Tunis, Tunisia

The IEEE Tunisia section Hackathon “Apps for Democracy” is an opportunity to foster innovation from the academic and professional communities. Our goal is to raise awareness of the public data to offer better services and enhance the quality of life for the citizens and consumers.

We believe that promotional vehicles, like a hackathon event, will raise awareness in our academic and professional communities and act as a springboard to innovative software solutions.

hackathon

Scope:

Mobile devices have become essential tools for bringing new economic opportunities to parts of the world that may have no other access to computing technologies or other forms of communication. The ability to provide real time information and to extract pertinent data can create new job opportunities and more importantly save lives. Anyone with access to a mobile device can be provided access to education and other information to help their endeavors.

Here is your chance to help improve Tunisia! The Apps for Democracyis a competition for development of mobile and web apps that will have a positive impact on improving Tunisia. The availability of rich datasets from the open data portal (www.data.gov.tn) has opened new possibilities for web and mobile application developers to create apps that will engage and serve our community.

Create a mobile or web app that:

  • Provides a service that is friendly and convenient, and will enhance the quality of life in Tunisia;
  • Enriches the activities of residents, businesses and visitors; AND
  • Utilizes open data

In addition to submitting an app, one per individual participant or a team, you will be required to submit a technical description explaining how your app works, and what it will accomplish. Remember that mobile devices have cameras and GPS, and so think about using these features. The app does not need to run on all Android, iOS, or Windows mobile devices, just on one of these will be sufficient.
