SURE NEXUS PROJECT TUNISIA PILOT: Sustainable Irrigation System in an Arid Region

FST, Campus Universitaire El-Manar, 2092 El Manar Tunis, Tunis El Manar, Tunis, Tunisia, 2092, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/485542

The project pilot aims to reduce water use and energy consumption in southern Tunisia, which is threatened by water scarcity, desertification, and the impact of climate change. The system is composed of: - Buried diffusers (4 diffusers are required for each tree) - Water distribution network for the buried diffusers - A gravity filter is installed to filter irrigation water. This filter is connected to a vertical pipe linked to the main pipe supplying water to the buried diffusers. - Pumping system - Solar Panels Expected outcomes: - Water saving - Increase water use efficiency through replacing drip irrigation with underground irrigation - Reduction of water evaporation, particularly in summer - Reduction of energy consumption - Use of renewable energy (Solar PV) - Improve profitability - Reduction of the costs of agricultural production - Improve Crop yield Speaker(s): 1.
